noise from fuel pump, 110 TD5
There is a recurring problem with my LR 110 (2006) TD5.
A year ago, in the middle of the Amazon, I noticed occasionally a hissing noise apparently from the fuel pump. This noise soon became permanent and the car was stalling when going slow for some time. This could be handled by pressing the accelerator or waiting for a while and then restart. Further on the car would not start even when cold. I had to pump the accelerator and she would come on eventually.
I recall that years ago I heard the same noise after long highway drives in Europe at higher speed but the noise would go away when the car was restarted.
Back home in Suriname I change the fuel pump and all was fine. Now, after a bit more than one year , the noise is occasionally back again. I am in disbelieve that I have to replace the costly pump again after such a short time.
Is this a well know problem? Can the pump be repaired, and how?
Could this have anything to do with other components of the fuel system like the return pump or the cooling of the returning fuel?
I have ruled out the lower quality of the Brazilian fuel and its alcohol since the problem did not go away with up to standard diesel and the recurred now with the new pump after having used proper diesel all the time. I have also added a anti diesel fungus additive (BIO CLEAN).
Any ideas how to fix this short of changing the pump?
Many thanks
