P400 Towing
#21
I have a redarc brake controller. When my sway controller came in the mail it had a couple stickers on the packaging with the warning not to use the integrated brake control. You can tell it's definitely an after market addition. Anyway, I'd love to hear how it all felt after your trip. Maybe what I'm feeling is normal.

I have p300 and towing a 5400 lbs (dry) travel travel. For sway control, I find without a sway bar it's actually more stable. For WDH, my trailer dealer installed a one for me. I'm currently using a one, but decided to remove it after I measure the tongue weight. The reason for LR recommend against WDH is that it will put unnecessary stress on the unibody car body. The air suspension is supposed to compensate any uneven weight distribution when towing.

Try eco and use premium oil when towing. Also avoid accelerating hard, it's not safe anyway. I can get about 10-11 mpg when driving on flat road with a bit of wind.

@Faith681 - our camping trip over the weekend with our 25’ travel trailer (5.5k lbs) went smoothly. We had mix of interstate and 2 lane roads ranging from 50-65MPH; no issues with sway. We’d occasionally notice a wiggle but either the Defender’s trailer stability system or the Hayes electronic sway controller would kick in and that would be it; definitely not an unsettling experience. We averaged roughly 11mpg towing there and back.

Us too. I feel like I need brinks truck to follow us around. Thinking maybe I should’ve just bought a used Touareg TDI. I could hold 23 mpg while towing with my old Touareg. This thing is going to make a cross country trip kinda expensive. Will also need to put a couple of rotopax’s on the roof for those off road stretches out west with no fuel. That’s what I get for buying a tank.
