Default Scammed big time 😞

As stupid as I feel right now, posting in hopes of helping others recognize this type of scam.

Last Sunday, 3 days ago, I responded to a CL ad for a salvaged ‘21 Defender, photos, website, someone answered the phone every time I called. I reviewed the website, googled the location, everything seemed fine. Wired money Monday, calls answered, told paperwork was being prepped, checked in Tuesday after no paperwork, phone calls were answered, but became suspicious. Had a friend called the supposed dealership, and he had a conversation with them. He felt they seemed legit. Today, still no paperwork, and no answer of the number. Website is still up but the google map no longer links to the location. Investigated some - address is a medical/dental building. Asked for a recal of the wire with my bank, waiting to hear from the recipient bank and trying to get a detailed copy of the transaction. Unfortunately, I’m not too hopeful as wires are like sending cash.

Feel so stupid. Very sophisticated scam. Proper English speaker, knowledgeable on the topic. Please be kind to me in your responses.

They probably wouldn’t give owner info but that’s likely to be inaccurate also.

Yeah, there's an eBay advert for bull bars. Wants to charge $7,500. Doesn't answer any questions. I'm sure that's a scam too. Where there's a high demand and shortage, there will always be criminals. Sorry to hear about that. I would definitely also involve the FBI as it is likely within their jurisdiction. Might get lucky when they registered the website.

RIght. I can pump out websites all day with whatever fake info I want. The best they can do is find an IP address for the admin but that will, undoubtedly, be run through a VPN and useless.

If its across state lines, I think its a federal issue that would involve the FBI. Dont quote me.

Wire Fraud wins you an FBI investigation. Though their efforts with on-line crime hasn't been highly noted.

You might want to let this guy know his image is being used in a scam: https://www.instagram.com/ryanthelionnn/

Google reverse image search is a wonderful thing.

Gather all the details you can and file a complaint with the FBI and contact your bank as well. Do it now, if not yesterday. The money is probably long gone. However, if it ended up being cashed out in this country you may stand a fighting chance.

Good luck!

oh and don’t be embarrassed to tell your story to your friends and family. You may save someone else from going through the pain you are feeling right now.
