Ahh,.. it's the matte rubber window trim around the windows reflecting light in an odd way.

So I was seriously considering Silicon Silver back in the fall of 2020 for a Defender 90, after I drove a 110 in Pangea Green (a color I did not care for at all). In the end I went with Eiger Grey (w/ Black Pack, 19” Black Wheels, and Black contrast Roof) because that’s what was available; and I’m glad I didn’t get Silicon Silver. Don’t get me wrong, Eiger Grey was not my first choice (didn’t look good in sunlight, but was gorgeous in rain, clouds, or night), but Silicon Silver just doesn’t look that good on a Defender, even when Blacked out, in my opinion. Carpathian Grey I always really liked, it’s real nice and dark.

The new Lantau Bronze option, previously available on other LR’s, is absolutely gorgeous though too, probably my second fav color, and looks way better than Gondwana Stone. For my 23.5MY 130 order though, I went with my fav, Santorini Black with White Contrast Roof, Extended Bright Pack, and the Gloss Black 22’s.

Here’s some examples below:

Carpathian Grey I saw last year at a Dealer:

First Time I saw Silicon Silver in 2020, looks way better on these than the Defender imo:

My 90 in Eiger Grey I got last year:

Lantau Bronze I saw this month at the dealer:

Thanks, the Silicon Silver almost looks like "Lantau Bronze Lite" in some of these photos. It seems more light gold than silver to me. I'm kinda leaning towards Carpathian at this point.

Here are some shots when she’s clean. It does have the matte wrap but you get the idea. She’ll look great for the weekend at least.

Color choices are subjective and personal. What someone considers to be "amazing" could be perceived by another person as "hideous" and both opinions are absolutely valid to each of them.

The best way to determine color choices is to look at the colors yourself both online as well as in person if possible and pick the one that excites you, gives you joy and satisfaction and such.

In regards to dark vs light color showing dirt, it depends on what kind of defender driver/owner you are.

Some people take their newly delivered defender to the shop to get ceramic coating and wash and wax them constantly to maintain the absolutely immaculate pristine condition.

On the other hand, some people take their defender to various terrains and leave them "dirty" with dust and mud and such to enhance the "identity and character" of the defender and that in a way is absolutely beautiful as well.

Just pick the color "YOU" love for whatever personal reason you have instead of referencing what other people think. Who cares if everyone is saying your car color is gorgeous but deep inside you actually prefer the other color?

Personally I think Carpathian grey is beautiful but that should be irrelevant to you

I totally agree it's a personal thing with colors. Pangea in person didn't do it for me even though before I ever saw a defender in person I was leaning toward it. Fwiw I went with carpathian and no black pack along with the white roof and white steelies. I think the pairing of the wheels and the roof makes it pop so if I went black roof I'd probably go with a darker wheel. In person i've never seen silicon silver so I can't speak to it though to me in pictures it's not enough to pay extra for vs eiger. Eiger in person I thought looked good, and paired with the black roof I think it's a good look. It's one of those looks you can't go wrong with. Carpathian is quite a bit different from black though IMO so I think there the price is justified. I don't regret carpathian. Honestly though I don't think anything looks bad on a defender. I appreciate the uniqueness of every one that I see tbh.

I have a silicon silver. I can understand the champagne comparison, but it does not really compare IMO. The color does tend to shift based on lighting, which is neat. I originally ordered a carpathian grey but could not get that color in my model so I went with SS. I have mostly accented it with black (roof, hood, and wheels) and it looks pretty good. I think as commented above the grey will be harder to keep clean as most darker colors. Mine is very dirty right now from camping over the weekend but it looks pretty good regardless.

I have yet to see someone else with a defender in SS. I think I have seen one CG defender. I typically like the rarer colors myself in general.

Default Try to see them in person

My dealer had a few colors on different models (evoque, rr sport, etc). They had a first edition that I had gone in to test drive and when walking through the lot the Carpathian Grey was the color that made me say “What is that?!” Pics do not do that color any justice. I decided on Carpathian after seeing it irl. It’s not your standard granite grey color. Also, Yulong white in person is really pretty. Best description is a dark white. Excited to see what you go with!
