Default Tire Pressure for defender L663

Like title says, what's the tire pressure? Mine was reading 38-39 psi and it was low on pressure? Are the stock Michelins 45 psi?

Normal pressure is on the door sticker. There is a light load setting as well that you set with the steering wheel buttons. Details are all in the iguide.

That's pretty high! Almost pressures of T size tires of pickups?

See the posts above. You can use light load if it’s less than three people or equivalent gear. Otherwise you should use normal load. All in the iGuide.

I think 38-39psi is/should be the norm.

so going to LT all terrain tires doesn’t matter on pressure settings

Generally, Light Truck (LT) tires need to be inflated at higher pressure than Passenger tires to have the same load capacity. So, disregard the door label and any PSI recommendations listed on the iGuide, since they apply to stock (P-metric) tires only. Running LT tires - especially E load range tires - at the pressure recommended for passenger tires can be dangerous, as the tire could overheat and fail by being severely underinflated, especially when driving at high speed.

If your shop recommends 50 PSI, they probably know something you don't (I suspect they are in the ballpark.) To make absolutely sure, call BFG customer support and tell them what you are doing: the vehicle you installed their KO2s on, what the original P-metric XL tire size is and what Land Rover recommends for light and normal loads, front and rear. They will calculate the equivalent load capacity and PSI to use with your LT tires. You may be surprised at the numbers they give you and may find the ride does indeed become harsher - it's the inevitable byproduct of switching to much heavier, stiffer and stronger LT tires. Decreased gas mileage is another.

This tire pressure calculator is very rudimentary and unfortunately only covers a small portion of popular tire sizes, but should give you a pretty good idea about the difference between P and LT tires PSI.

Tire pressure related question

I did lower mine to 49 rear and 47 front from door jam label and used a new -what I believe is a good mechanical gage. My system on the Defender tells me to use the pressures I have e.g. recommended. But my system readout of actual pressure is lower than my mechanical gage. Anyone else notice this? I am stock everything on P300 with the Pirelli Scorpion All Seasons. They seem ok in snow and ice so far with limited driving in those conditions BTW.
