It's at the McLaren dealer, so it probably looks like a cheap throw-in to those customers. Also, highly suspect in that it has mileage listed as "26". Land Rover dealers seem to be getting around corporate rules by 'selling' Defenders to customers, trading them back at full price and then marking them way up. I'll bet this McLaren dealer is part of a dealer network that includes Land Rover Charlotte. Probably a quid pro quo to some McLaren customer. You see the same thing with Porsche GT cars. Customer really wants a GT3RS so in order to secure the allocation, he agrees to buy a GT3, immediately trades it back for full list and the dealer is now free to sell it at 'market' because it is a used car. Porsche has very stringent pricing policies dealers must adhere to or risk losing allocations, access to special finance rates or worse. Not sure if JLR has similar rules in place but the sheer amount of 'used' 2022 Defenders on Autotrader with less than 1000 miles indicates they do.

This dealership is famous for insane markups at the front end release of a desired car when there’s very few around. They take the approach that the market hasn’t clearly been set yet so they throw a high number to see if someone bites. If you called them tomorrow and offered them 175K they’d probably sell it to you, but that will probably still be higher then current market value. They were the first to advertise a $330k GT Black Series and I think they started out at 850k … I don’t know what they sold it for. It’s just the way they do business.

They have no rules just guidelines like most dealership out there. Both my local ones have new listed 100k over and one was actually sold about a week ago. Even with Chevy putting out that public notice to dealers doing mark ups there isn't a single dealer in town that has a Corvette listed at or near MSRP. It is all because people are paying and dealers are being allowed. Most all those "guidelines" are putting makeup on a pig. Sadly consumers pay the price.

I haven't kept a close eye but when I have been browsing, most V8s listed are north of $200k - completely nuts.

I have seen blips of other nonsense from that dealer but this publicized insanity around the spit shine they tried to pull on this GT3 is just something else Road & Track - The Saga of This Well-Specced 911 GT3 Has Us Dumbfounded

If you guys think these prices are nuts look at these G-Wagons ...

2021 Mercedes-AMG G-Class carbon black - Richmond (autotrader.ca)

New 2021 Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG 4MATIC for sale in Brooklyn, NY 11214: Sport Utility Details - 630543366 - Autotrader

The prices were always high but rumor is that Mercedes is not sure to produce any for 2024 and the G-Wagon Electric will come out for 2025 so the prices just exploded these past few months.
