Bumping this up. Since we here in the US are not as lucky as the Italians, what are you guys pushing 50k plus miles doing for extended warranty? Costs? My local dealer pests me around over and over with letters offering the extended warranty, but I haven't had the guts to ask the price yet. My Defender is a 2020, so soon enough I will have to decide on trading in or biting the bullet on the extended warranty. It seems to me trading in is a poor financial decision when compared to even the most expensive warranty. Opinions?
I extended mine to 75k at the time of purchase since I knew I would be putting lots of miles on it. Bought my car November 21 (its a 22) and it is about to hit 50k. I have had some issues so I am not sure if I will keep it past the 75k as I am a bit nervous, but well see!
Once the guarantee has expired, it is worth underlining that the manufacturers are not always inflexible in denying the intervention. Not infrequently the builder agrees to take on the burden of some repairs even if the coverage has expired. It is the so-called "commercial fairness": the company, despite having no obligation, nevertheless intervenes both on the basis of considerations of commercial opportunity (to improve customer satisfaction) and because it is aware that such a model has suffered from a certain defect ... so in my opinion wait to decide...
Really not my experience here in the US. Usually dealers adopt a "time's up" approach and you are out of luck or pay out of pocket.
I got an extended warranty for mine when I bought it. I think it was $7k for 7 years or 100k with only a $200 deductible. I plan on keeping it that is why I took it. And man I am so happy with my Defender. I do change the oil every 5k at a dealer no matter where I am at in the States.

Does anyone know if this applies to the UK too? I read that this was something being changed across Europe, but the uk LR website still says 3 years standard warranty.
Here’s pricing I was given. Mileage and dates start when contract is written, so it overlaps with factory which really irks me and has prevented me from pulling the trigger.
it makes me question keeping the vehicle long term too. Just feels like a jab when we’ve spent so much money and had so much patience with all the service visits while it’s under warranty.
We have a 2020 with 36,000 miles run. June 2024 is my deadline…

You should be able to buy an extended warranty up until the last day you are covered by the original OEM one. When I had a MB GLS, I purchased an extended warranty when the suv hit 49,998 miles at the dealership door lol. I know, cutting it close but I wanted to make sure I really wanted to keep it at the time before buying it. I paid to keep it all the way to 7 years or 100k miles but in the end I traded it at 65k miles.
I have a 2020 that I bought CPO with 5k miles on it. The CPO came with an extra 1 year and another 50k mikes - so I’m at 5 years / 100k miles coverage.
I put a ton of highway miles on my defender. I’m about to roll 70k - so my mikes are going to run out long before the years do. I want to keep the truck, but I’m usually anti-extended warranty purchase. Does anyone even offer coverage beyond 100k and am I an idiot to consider keeping it past that point with no warranty coverage?
the extended warranties I looked into were really under covering the vehicle. Sure it covers the actual motor and powertrain decently, but on these cars all the electronics and what not is where the cost adds up.
I couldn't find anyone that would cover the $4,000 headlights, which is why I started my journey of looking into them.
I think you gotta trust your vehicle. If it's a good one with minimal issues since new, then I would wing it personally.
