Windscreen chips
Hi, not sure if this is becoming a phenomenon, but my Defender 110 attracts a fair number of windscreen chips. Is anyone else experiencing this, and does anyone know of a bonnet deflector kit available? Thanks
Oh that sucks....do you have the heated windscreen by chance? I'm wondering if heated windscreens are covered by auto insurance like regular windscreens are.
The glass seems pretty weak in my opinion. I went for years in an LR4 with no chips before finally getting a massive crack from a big stone. First road trip in the defender and I find a quarter sized chip when I get back. Hopefully JLR is stocking up on windscreens.
Hang onto that OEM windshield as long as possible. The Pilkington replacement windshields that insurance will cover are even weaker. The current Pilkington replacement windshield in my LR4 (windshield #5 I believe) looks sandblasted after 5000 miles when driving into the sun.
yes...heated! Mine is covered by insurance.
Many reports of chips and cracks. Who knows if the glass is weak or it’s just the upright design of the windshield. I had one crack repaired already and then applied this product I found called shatterx that purports to strengthen a windshield and prevent chips. It’s pretty cheap so I don’t really care if it doesn’t work, but it has made the windshield incredibly easy to clean, and so far so good on chips.
