Thumbs up Azusa Outting Part 2

So after getting stuck in the mud, my dad tried to tow me out. No movement at all. Then he tried to yank me out. This is what happened.

recovery hook ended up blasting through the back and nailing the front as well.

shame it was the heated front glass as well...little bit of a repair.

The only problem i had was bumper damage, but its ok with me because i want a new front steel end anyways.

Very lucky that somebody wasn't killed or seriously injured by the flying tow hook. Yanking on a vehicle is not a good idea.

Yeesh!

As you have shown, that front "recovery point" is meant for "On-Road Recovery" only, and obviously wasn't meant to handle the force you guys put on it. Looks like you've got a little more than just bumper damage the way those headlights are drooping.

Someone was killed a week or 2 ago in Wisconsin, during a recovery due to failed equipment, you guys were extremely lucky with your outcome.

----

What did you use to "yank" it out of there? A ****** strap with shackles, or was it just a tow strap with hooks?

hook with twist lock. bad idea for sure yanking it.

I totally agree that the recovery hook should never be used in this kind of situation. The only spot available at this point to hook up on was that spot since the front end was dug into mud, and the rear side was way to slick to pull me out.

Live and learn, and now i know. everyone with us now knows.

You need to learn how to use a winch/ cable or any recovery device, cause this could have been a lot worse.
