Great pics Brian

Thanks, for sharing it sure looks pretty out there this time of the year.
|
Thanks guys. Yes, if the sun would have popped out for a minute...the colors would have really popped too.
|

Nice photos and looks like it was a good trip, Brian. Jim and I got out over the weekend and went glamping down by Frankfort. Lucky for us we didn't run into any snow but I guess they got it in areas of TC. It was quite windy - enough to knock down some lines (five feet in front of us) on US-31 and see white caps on Crystal Lake. Got off road a bit - freaked ourselves out a little delving into 'da deep voods'. This was taken within the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore. I'm still puzzled... https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/landrov...77888b4cc4.jpg |
Yes, some sort of voodoo going on there...very strange.
We ran into some green areas in the UP, especially close to the big lake. But, nothing where it was green canopy overhead...with turned leaves on the ground. We got off the hammer road at Gaylord and went east to check out colors, somewhat disappointing...some yellows and such...but it looked as though they'd suffered a drought. Did you drive Bertha on your glamping trip (whatever that is?)? Brian. |
Oh, yeah...no ticket for me...l'm waiting until the amount gets substantial.

Did you drive Bertha on your glamping trip (whatever that is?)? Brian. Hopefully I get to pick up Bertha next week. She will still have some work to be done (transfer case reseal, ball joint, etc.) which I'm planning on having done over the winter but at least she'll be driveable (knock on wood) :) Thanks again for all of your help! 'Glamping'.. haha. Must be a girl term. 'Glamour Camping' - hot water, a roof over our heads, a bed, tv, coffee pot and cups but not much more. We rented a little cabin at one of those mom and pop establishments next to Lake Michigan. Reasonably priced, warm and comfortable - built in the 1920s. It was fun and nice to get away. I went to an estate sale a week ago, on the east side of our area with a lot of little lakes, and all of the trees were dull with some yellows. I commented to my friend that the colors were less than stellar and he replied that they were mostly oak, poplar, and pine. The main area of TC is beautiful right now - gorgeous red and orange maples with yellow and green mixed in - it really makes driving to work enjoyable. |
My wife and I were talking about how muted the colors are out here on the west coast, she grew up way up north in BC and found the colors much more vibrant up there. She thought it might have some thing to do with the cold.

Yeah, l'm not sure what causes dull colors. Although, l thought l'd read once that it is the cool nights that triggers the change. Maybe, to cold to fast...can have some affect? And like mentioned before, some areas of the upper peninsula were just fantastic, others, surprisingly green.
Just snapped these two out the side door. Mostly green or dull brown or leaves dropped already around here, and we've had ample rain all summer. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/landrov...cbcac3aa42.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/landrov...b316f0bcee.jpg Okay, we did some "glamping" during our trip...unfortunately. Brian. |
Must be the cold nights. Amazingly green at your place for so late in the year! I snapped these on my way to work 2 weeks ago and then the last photo was this morning. Crazy what a difference 2 weeks makes. I'm not ready for winter - still have to clean out the garage and do some odd jobs around the house. I'm hoping this snow makes an exit within the week and gives us some dry weather before December. I have been so busy at work lately that I cannot keep up with anything. Need to pick up the Rover, do a couple of quick flushes of oil, get the ball joints looked at and the transfer case sealed. Oh yeah.. brakes too :)

Missed the last photo post...yes...your colors were much nicer than ours.
Winter has reared its ugly head here a couple times, but l've still not removed the snowblower from the corn crib. Brian. |
You had a nice trip. I live 30 miles west of Marquette. Great pics! I am getting a disco tomorrow that looks like yours. It's a 2001.
