Winter Romp 2018

Never attended but am hoping to make the trek next month. Is it possible to participate in a D2 with stock front bumper? I'd appreciate input. Thanks.

ArmyRover 01-09-2018 07:02 PM

I have seen everything from stock to heavily modified out there over the years. It is a lot of fun, I highly recommend coming out.

Hope I see you out there.

Where are you driving up from?

Also this is out from Lucky8 a scavenger hunt with some really big prizes!

SALTYJoe 01-09-2018 07:23 PM

Thanks, I had seen some but not all of those videos, and actually the absence of stock bumper trucks is what got me thinking my truck wasn't prepared. I'd be coming up from Philly area.

ArmyRover 01-09-2018 07:41 PM

It's a great time, I wouldn't miss it.

Just think through what your doing on the trail and don't try to do anything to insane.

ArmyRover 01-15-2018 08:23 PM

Registration is open and pre-order for Romp T-Shirts

ArmyRover 01-17-2018 09:36 PM

There is a group chat on whatsapp ( available for free in itunes and play store) going to chat about ask questions etc on Winter Romp.

Trying to fit some new MT's in the budget before the 2400 mile round trip.

ArmyRover 01-18-2018 04:18 PM

good to hear, think I said hi to you lol

stillruns 01-18-2018 05:11 PM

I've wanted to go to this for years. When little man gets older and I can fund an extra Disco, I'm there. Can't wait to see after pics and videos. Hopefully the trails aren't impassable due to snow. :disco:

ArmyRover 01-18-2018 05:44 PM

where are you from?

stillruns 01-18-2018 06:29 PM

Recently moved to Nashville, TN.

ArmyRover 01-18-2018 06:56 PM

That's a short drive :)

stillruns 01-18-2018 08:38 PM

It would be a fun drive for sure. We’ll be settled in next year and looking forward to making the trip.

ArmyRover 01-18-2018 08:48 PM

I hear you I moved last year twice.

stillruns 02-04-2018 06:17 PM

Any idea if there has ever been a Freelander make this event? Could a Freelander hang with the trails? LoL

ArmyRover 02-04-2018 08:10 PM

I think one or two have gone over the years lol. It all depends on the trails and what you have towing it. :)

Got my steering shaft replaced this weekend, drives like a sports car. Can't wait for Romp!!!

Just need control arms, alignment and tires..... :(

Alex_M 02-07-2018 10:54 PM

If this were closer I would be there. I fully plan to attend next year. Looks like it's going to be a blast.

ArmyRover 02-08-2018 05:53 AM

What's close have to do with it. :)

stillruns 02-14-2018 07:56 AM

Weather Friday in low 40’s? Heat wave! Saturday back down to 20’s and clear. I’m not seeing any snow forecast. Last year I saw was brutal bc of the snow. It looks like there will be some good trail riding for this one.

Post some pics along the way!

ArmyRover 02-14-2018 12:16 PM

Should be hitting the road tonight. Just have to get the tires mounted and toss my stuff in the back

Winter Ramp 2018!!

stillruns 02-14-2018 07:38 PM

What tires? I like this tread pattern.

Going to be a blast!

ArmyRover 02-14-2018 07:52 PM

Atturo Trail Blade XT. So far I like them. Lot less road noise than the general Grabber at2

Somewhere in North Carolina

Had to fill up the tank and get a fresh drink.

stillruns 02-14-2018 09:44 PM

We just moved from there. Great state for the outdoors. Mountains and the coast are really amazing. Taking 95 all the way up I suppose? NC has Sheetz gas stations that are pretty nice.

ArmyRover 02-14-2018 10:19 PM

We just moved to Georgia about a year to half ago ourselves. We have really been enjoying the outdoors. Staying a little more inland on the highway so I can miss Philly DC and New York.

Done with North Carolina and on to Virginia

ArmyRover 02-14-2018 10:59 PM

Pulled off for a bit to rest in Virginia

stillruns 02-16-2018 08:27 AM

High of 44 today, cloudy and light rain. Awesome! Looking forward to the updates

I'll be at the Hotel this afternoon meeting up with a customer friend, but not hanging out for the event. Army.....What is that all over your truck???

I have a sticker fetish... You aren't staying for a beer at least?

I finally made it.

I broke down around Staunton VA. The main belt tensioner failed, spectacularly. It did however hold on long enough at about a 30 degree angle to cut all the way through the timing cover. The belt kicked the thermostat housings butt and something chewed up the auxiliary belt as well. Broke out the chair Fire tab and relaxed watching the Grand Tour while I waited for the tow truck..

So I was towed to Land Rover Alternative (British Precision) over in Charolettsville VA. 6 hours later and a customer directed JB Weld session. Saw me back on the road with new belts, tensioner and thermostat housing. He did great work so if you ever break down in the area there you go.

I finally made it to Romp at 2pm-ish today. Exhausted but damn glad to be here.

The Deputy 02-17-2018 02:58 AM

Glad you made it and sorry to hear about the breakdown. Hope you have a great time at the romp.

Brian.

It happens, in the grand scheme of things it's a minor detail. Still going to be eating at Big G's this morning. :) Had a great dinner last night with about 20 other Rover folks and a fun night with drinks and stories.

Going to be a chilly one today

stillruns 02-17-2018 12:24 PM

Two things to always keep in your LR. AAA card and a folding chair for the wait, lol. Fingers crossed today will be better.

I was at the hotel from about 2:20pm till 3pm or so, 1st thing I looked for was the sticky fetish mobile, never saw it.......I was out back meeting up with Aaron and his LR3........Nope no beer, had to come back to take a leak, you're just down the road. Even brought the Super Model Crack Head down.......didn't have brakes, but I still drove it.

Oh, and 19 degree's isn't cold.......it was a nice day today!!

Also.....always park in a dry spot, you'll probably end up working on it.....
Have snow close at hand, wiper juicer probably doesn't work....
(mine did, but fellow LR owners picked up on why I was tossing snow pretty quickly)

ArmyRover 02-17-2018 05:12 PM

Today was a great day. Minor issue with a seized rear caliper slider. Worked out a plan to fix that up, with only a slight detour.

Sorry I missed you, we are all heading to mainly brews for dinner in a bit.

I have roadside that is pretty good through my insurance. So GEICO paid for the tow. The chair and some good to shows is a must though.

The Deputy 02-21-2018 02:42 PM

Any pictures from the event? What were snow conditions like?

Brian.
