1993 Range Rover Classic LWB

I found a rather disheveled '93 RRC LWB in Alpine white for sale locally in Seattle.

Taken the day I brought it home, after a wash and detail to see what I was dealing with.

My goal is to get the car to be a safe and reliable daily driver for our Au Pair, who will be arriving from Germany in October. Once she leaves next year I want to fully restore it.

Some initial problems:
  • Big Oil leak - looks like its coming from the Oil pressure switch.
  • A lot of play in the transfer case.
  • Suspension is shot. (Has previously been converted to Coils from original Air suspension.)
  • Electrics -
    • Seats & Mirrors don't work.
    • Rear windows don't work.
    • Heated Seats non op.
    • Mold on the sun visors.
    • Stereo non op.
  • Front seats still have their shape, but the leather is ripped in places and badly cracked.
  • Headliner is shot.
  • Rear Hatch gas struts don't hold up the hatch (minor annoyance)
  • Original paint and bodywork is not too bad, but nearly every panel has a ding in it.
  • Brakes have new pads but Calipers are @~25%

  1. Amazingly it passed emissions testing first time! (The RRC hadn't been tested in 11 years)
  2. Replaced the front windshield with a new heated one (have to track down why it's non operational, looks like two fuses wired in series for Left and Right side of the screen?)
  3. Removed the Sunvisors and cleaned off the mold. I was pleasantly surprised with how well they came up.
  4. Removed the Seat/Mirror ECU. The battery leaked all over the circuit board. so i'm looking for a replacement. The seat motors are in good shape on both seats.

Performed a 30K service.
Replaced fluids in both Difs, changed the Oil, Filter, fuel filter.
Didn't flush the cooling system yet. Noticed that the Low Coolant sensor is non op so ordered a new one.
Major Oil leak was occurring at the Oil pressure switch. Replaced it and the leak has gone.

Replaced Suspension with the Terrafirma 2" Lift , springs and shock kit from AB.
While the truck was up on the lift I was able to check out the underside and look for leaks at the usual spots.

The transfer case is weeping and there's lots of play in it. The truck has 250K miles so time for a new transfer case. I think i'll look for a D1 TCase and Driveshaft so that I gain a cdl.

When I drained the rear Dif, there was more water in it than oil. Might be a forewarning of a bad bearing in my future...
Lastly, I replaced the Hatch struts as the Hatch kept hitting me on the head and dropping at inopportune moments.

I have good BW case from my 90 RRC. Love the thread so far.

Took the Classic to work today to see how she does with the new suspension.

D1 locking transfer case ordered. Anyone know whether a front drive shaft from a D1 will bolt right up?

Yep. Sure does

IT does and it always makes me smile seeing a RRC getting put back into shape.

Interior trim needs LOTS of work :) I started poking around in the cubby box to see if the relays for the rear windows are bad and the cubby basically disintegrated on me. Add "rebuild center console to to-do list".

Previous owner removed the cats and ran a straight pipe to the mufflers. It is loud. I'm wrestling with ordering a full stainless system.
My 109 is arriving soon and i'm trying to be frugal...

P.s. ArmyRover. Can i get first right of refusal on your Trident green 110 ? (hijacking my own build thread there)
