Darnit , I should have checked his thread sooner!
well the alternator failed halfway between LA and Vegas. The girls were able to manually link the batteries to get enough juice to keep the car running to get to a campsite and a tow to Vegas this morning where a new alternator was procured and installed.
the alt that went in is a 60 amp model from a 200tdi. I'm hoping that with the dual battery system, that it'll be enough for the trip home. Then I'll replace with a new HD alternator and put the 60amp one into my 109.

Man!!! I have two spare alternators. Sucks!

I just read this thread from start to finish in one sitting. I think the white RRC is my favorite of all the different colors available. Yours is tastefully upgraded-exactly what I have in mind for my own build. I especially love the focus on ensuring reliability and catching up on deferred maintenance. I've owned 5 Toyotas of various models and no matter what "Toyota guys" say about reliability, it's the same focus for them as what you've described with Senor Blanco.

I'm now into week 3 of owning "Pippa", my first Range Rover (or anything British for that matter). There's lots of faulty electrical gremlins, strange clunks when shifting, and there's an obvious fuel delivery issue, but it has yet to leave me stranded like all my Land Cruiser buddies said would happen. A bonus is as I drive through the ritzy Cherry Creek neighborhood on my way home, I'm getting approving nods from well-kept moms in Audi wagons and late model Range Rovers. It's the little things in life...

You've showed me the way ahead...thank you! :disco:
