Said the same people who thought it was OK to run the engine at +212 degrees.

The manual was written well before anyone had years of experience running the 4.6 at those hot temps. granted you'll be running cooler but why not use an oil with the ZDDP you need rather than buying an additive?

As for the dexcool if you plan on having an airtight engine forever then sure. Dex fails when it comes in contact with air. Good luck with that!

Im still pulling parts as needed from my old D2. Ive saved so much money already, its crazy. But now I need to start planning ahead. I wanna keep the Turner block, 04 cdl transfer case, transmission and power steering gearbox but dont have any place to store them. I dont have a trailer yet neither and Im not sure I really wanna haul said parts cross country, where ever I go. I cannot justify selling any of it either, especially the Turner block as I will get low balled. Storage units around here are a bit pricey for how little space I would need. Any suggestions would be fantastic.

I suggest you use green coolant and an oil with ZDDP.

It's your truck, time, and money....but WHY, after all that work would you go backwards and still use Dexcool? :dunno:

I really thought you miswrote that...I went back and read it.

The manual was written well before anyone knew anything about Dexcool.

I've been running rotella 15-40 and green coolant the entire 6 years we've owned our rover and I have yet to have any issues other than the head gaskets.

I guess some people like the increased stress. I love to work on my truck too but I wouldn't put dexcool in it even if it was in the bottle and I had it in the trunk.

Currently tracking down a small oil leak in close proximity to the oil filter adapter. After cleaning the area real good I noticed oil dripping from the 4 bolts that secure the adapter to the engine front cover. Double checked the oil filter and made sure the oil cooler plug was tighr. Pulled the adapter and o-ring and installed the spare from my Turner block with no avail. Only other thing I can think of is the oil pan gasket but thats a stretch. Everything above the adapter "appears" to be dry.

She looks pretty rust free under there. Sure makes for more enjoyable working conditions.

You're right about that! I couldnt even get the crossmember off my grey D2 because the bolts were so rusted. Everything feels solid on this truck and its been alot easier to work on versus my old D2. The tradeoff is a peeling dashboard...
