Bummer. New Tstat isn't going to get here until next week. Le sigh.
I guess this will give me time to change fluids! Truck came with a few jugs of Valvoline 75w90 gear oil, should work just fine right? |
For the appropriate bits it will be fine

Tstat came.. today!!! Actually took a peek inside, it’s stamped 78 degrees C.. gonna install it tomorrow afternoon  |
Ugh, not pleased!
Swapped in the new black tstat from Lucky8 and basically still have the same results :dunno: First off, i'm pleased with myself in this endevor for only losing about a few cups of coolant on the ground! Started the truck, temps crept up to 215 and then i shut it off -- heat was on full blast and the air coming out was meh hot. I should also note that i installed a new temp sensor on the lower intake manifold while doing my HG job. All parts are from Lucky8. Busted out the thermo gun after i shut the truck off and here is what it read. Ambient temp was in the low 80s, truck is parked on a slight incline with the nose facing up. Top 3 radiator hoses were between 150 and 170 Lower WP hose was 135 Radiator: From the engine compartment side -- Top left 121 Top right 102 Low left 97 Low Right 95 Lower rad hose was 97 Tstat: Upper half was 138 and lower half was 104 Heater core hoses: Going in was 140 and coming out was 125 In contrast, here are my readings before i replaced the radiator, WP and tstat: I shot the temps from the back side of Rad (the engine compartment side) Upper left corner of Rad: 190 Upper right corner of Rad: 122 Lower left corner of Rad: 155 Lower right corner of Rad: 100 Upper cooling hose from bleeder T to Rad: 171 @ Rad and 140 @ T T to block: 167 T-Stat to T: 178 Rad to T-stat: 114 WP to T-stat: 155 Expansion tank: 175 Heater core hoses were both 133 MagPie is cooling off right now, so hoping she burps A LOT BECAUSE I AM OVER THIS SH-T Any insights, thoughts or money donations would be greatly appreciated! |
Hmm.. MagPie burped -- Expansion tank is 1/2 full now.
:dunno: |
Better than farting...

Isn't there a way to chuck the external t-stat garbage for a conventional setup? Have you checked for exhaust gases in coolant?
|
You mean the inline mod? Sure it can be done.. I guess what I was thinking about in the middle of the night is that the coolant temps at the upper half of the tstat aren’t getting hot enough to open it. I was seeing 150-170 yesterday, tstat shouldn’t open until 178. Mean while the engine is overheating. Ugh. Right? Havent done the gas coolant test. |
did you open the bleeder screw before you start it up in the morning (while the truck is stone cold) to see if there is any air there?
