Older D 90 - UK, Removable Top?
Hi there,
Thinking about importing a 25 year old or older D90. If it ever happens it would be a wknd sunny day driver. I'd like the top to be removed.
Can anyone lend some thoughts on this? Can the top be removed? Are after market roll cages avail?

roof, wether truck cab or hard top just unbolts. The four rear holders can be a serious PITA to remove. If it has a hard top then see about getting a tail gate as well. Series 2a/3 will fit them, have done this many times when in the UK.
Rear cages are also easy to get, if you want one then try and get an ex minstry rear cage. They offer a reasonble protection in a roll over even at speed. One of the sergents in the unit i was in rolled a 90 on the road at 50mph and he walked away.
If importing a 25 year + 90 from the UK make sure that the engine number matches to the V5 (registration document). I know of alot that have been fitted with TDi's but not have had the engine recorded. If there is a discrepncy then you wont get it into the country. Also watch out for ones that have work done on the front dumb irons, a known rust area but also where the vin is. Another reason to get it impounded and not released.
