Hello there!
I am new and really enjoy the site so far. I have been tearing everything done in the disco and trying to find all the rust and treat it if possible. Today I tore apart the passenger side front and noticed I could see the tire from the inside. There is really no place for me to weld in panels (aside from taken the whole dash out, and I do not want to do that).
So I am at a crossroads, I feel that doing all the work right will require more time and money than I want to spend any suggestions? The amount of rust is crazy, and I think the rust is what is holding the front together. Then I get to the back and it is not that bad. So I am not sure what to do. I have limited space to keep tearing stuff apart and going from the ground up.
So suggestions, do I just enjoy it (because it runs nice even with 208,000) and have some fun or sell it right away and find another one with manageable rust. I know one thing I really like the idea of having a Land Rover.

What state are you and that truck from?
Yes, some get rust because of the high % of metal and aluminum mied in different panels.
Sounds like what you have is a parts truck. Not sure how much you have in it but it won't last long.

I am from Michigan and the truck has been in New England and Michigan most of its life. Hence rust due to salt! I wish Michigan would just use sand it would be much better for everyone.
You are supposed to look for those things BEFORE you buy it!
It sounds like putting money into one with that kind of miles on it and that significant degree of corrosion is a losing proposition. There are lots of them around that you can buy cheaper than you can afford to fix one in that shape.

I did not buy the vehicle I traded for it. I had a sand rail that I did not use anymore. But yes, I did not do enough research before that, either way I think I can still sell it for more than I would of got for the rail.
That rear area is certainly no worse than mine or slangin's was. Just sand it off, treat it, and put some bondo or weld patches over any holes.

these trucks are bulletproof, dont worry about holes in the floorboard, you have a VERY tough frame under a discovery taht will hold the truck together for another 200K. patch the holes with whatever you want or can and enjoy the truck till the motor or something major goes. some people even fix them after that point because they just like working on their rover. good luck keep us posted! contact Spike555 for some advice he is THE king on D1's
kman...Thanks for that it is reassurance that working on it is worth it, I will post some more pictures tomorrow of the work that I did today and the work I am going to be doing soon. I was working on the front passenger side floor and firewall area.
