Default AC Question

My AC runs cold, but occaisonally the fans stop, sometimes it will restart on its own, but if not i just press AC controls and it resarts.

Any ideas?

Does this happen on all speeds or just one, if so, which speed?

I usually keep it on 4, the fan doesn't blow as hard on 1 or 2. so i'm not sure if it happens on other speeds.

Mine craps out on 4 once in a while. I usually just slide the fan control down to 1 and back up to 4 and its fine. Not sure what the problem is but it hasn't annoyed me enough to tear apart the dash yet.

it is annoying, but like you said not enough to tear apart the dash, just checking to see if anyone had a solution.

Your fan switch is starting to fail, kind of common on D1's and hard to find a replacement.

Is it an easy swap of the switch on the dash?

I had a friend do it once, said it was pretty easy, but he was real familiar with D1's.

Rebuild your switch, takes about 15min.
Remove the HVAC control panel, gain access to the HVAC switch, clean with electrical contact cleaner.
Now clean it up with a emery cloth, clean with cleaner again.
Once dry put it all back.

The copper contacts get corroded and cause the electricity to stop flowing through the switch.
Pressing on the control panel or wiggling the switch, even while still in the non working position will cause it to make contact again and start working.
Hit a bump in the road, no fan again, hit another bump, fan.

One of the great things about the DI is that almost all electrical switches and parts can be rebuilt, this includes the headlight and wiper switches.
