Default Ac quit working

97 D1, Had great AC all last summer, and this year, it doesn't seem to want to work.
AC compressor clutch doesn't engage,
Plenty of refrigerant, inside fan runs, fuse (#15) checks oK..

I had the HVAC control apart as the fan switch melted this last winter, and I replaced the switch with another, works good.
When I push the AC button (snowflake) it doesn't light up but feels like it is clicking on.

Hate to think about taking the dash apart again to check the switch but I think that is what I am up to now unless anyone has a suggestion??

That sucks.

Isn't there a relay that runs the compressor?

Did you hook gauges up to check pressures? Could be a faulty pressure switch. Have you tried "jumping" the pressure switch to see if the compressor comes on ...and if it throws cooling (if so ...how much??)? (Check voltage at the clutch connector too)

Hooked up gauges and both sides look plenty full, at least enough to make the low pressure switch happy. Checked fuses and that was about all I could handle in the direct sunshine and 95+ degrees... Supposed to be cooler this week so the hunt continues..

Blower switch (Front Fan Speed Switch (X247)). Not the A/C switch. Mine was doing this as well.
A/C switch in, blower any position, light on A/C button should be lit.
I took apart the switch, cleaned slider surface and bars with "0" steel wool, dielectric grease it up, snap back together and it was good to go.
p.s. Be mindful of the little springs and detent thingy.

Now if I could get those pesky condenser fans to come on.....
