They are as much a Discovery as the new Defender is a Defender..

But they are a nice vehicle I would add.

NO
I would even go so far as to say the Discovery 2 BARELY qualifies to have the name. 1999 was the cutoff year for true-blue discos.

unless you are using the name of the vehicle as the bar by which to judge, all the answers you get will be completely subjective and based on criteria that varies from person to person and therefore, fairly, useless.

yes, i like to state the obvious.

89-04 D1/D2 are the true Discovery models. Solid axles F/R, LR V8, great classic roof design with alpine windows, body on frame design, and massive rear cargo door with the spare tire mounted to it. I love my D1's & my D2's and the dash design and interior layout is my favorite and it never gets old to me.

LR3/LR4 still had a bit of the roof design to it, and they tried to make it look like it had alpine windows (it doesn't), but unibody/frame construction, different V8 (great motor), and just a modern LR without true British character IMHO.

D5 = it's as close to the original as the new Defender is to it's original.........
