air bags
What is the best way to unhook the air bags for off road use?

You'd have to be pretty rough to activate them. I've hit some big bumps, even been airborne on all four and not set them off. I've set off the hazards a few times, but never the airbags. I figure if I ever set them off, I will probably be glad I did.
I have had success unplugging them, like when I removed the steering wheel to replace the spiral coil. Nothing scary happened, and everything was fine when I plugged it back in. |
When selling my LR3, the guy test driving it hit a deer and who knows what else. The impact was hard enough that it activated the seatbelt tensioner on the driver's side, but it didn't set of the airbag. I think you have to hit something pretty hard to set off an airbag in a Land Rover. Now, in the LR3, I'm a little more worried about rolling the thing a little too far to the side and causing all of the side curtain airbags to pop. I'd be happy for them to go off in a high speed roll over on the highway, but it's just an added cost if it happened in a nice, slow, flop on a trail. :)
