Bad Day

Bad Day
Today was a bad day for the D1 and me. The truck broke down in the drive through lane (with wife driving to make maters worse...imagine what I went through!). It seemed as if it was running out of fuel and would not start back up. The truck turns over but will not start. So, I had the tow truck pick it up or I thought that was the case. When I got off work, some crackhead had ripped my dash apart and stole my radio and the tow truck was not there. Now I have to replace the center plastic dash out, replace the radio, and then figure out what is wrong with the truck. I did check the fuel pressure and it did not even register on my gauge, but this was while the truck was not running with key on as it will not start.

See if you can hear the fuel pump running. If it's not, check the fuse, check the relay, check for current at the pump or hook it to a trickle charger and see if it will run. If not, replace the fuel pump. I did mine recently, and it's not that bad of a job. If the fuel pump is running, or even if it's not, replace the fuel filter. If it's been in there a while, it will need it. I pulled mine out and I could not blow through it - not good.

Have someone try to start the truck while you lightly tap on the pump with a rubber mallet or a good knock with your hands. When mine went, it would keep running for a few seconds if I tapped it.
You can get the pump (assuming you have the AEL fuel system) from AB for less than $400.00. I think I paid $367.00.
Replacing the pump is simple, but check the other stuff first (filter, etc.) before shelling out the money for the pump.
