Default Can't catch a break...

It seems like my Disco 1 just won't let me relax...you fix one thing, enjoy the moment, and immediately, another "crisis" pops out... Looks like I'm going to be doing head gaskets job now...truck never overheated, still holds steady below 180f when driving, but clearly i'm pushing coolant out...first i thought this is from the spill, but even after cleaning, the same spot is getting "wet" (driver side)...picture was taken from underneath of the truck.
This is my punishment for not doing heads when I did valley cover and lifters swap / cleaning in the first place...oh well, lessons learned.

It is a long shot, but how does the throttle body heater look? They tend to leak often.

So i removed the hood and i was able to get better access to the rear. I used a mirror and man, it looks like maybe there is a leak from the rear corner of the valley gasket...aghhh...I jacked up frame and i was able to squeeze my hand with the brush and cloth on it. I have clean the whole area really good now, I'm going to run it for few days and see what's happening. Worse case scenario, I will start taking everything apart right after the Christmas...

My P38 had a similar leak. It was a loose intake manifold to HG bolt (from a HG job that was done before I had the vehicle.

How many miles on your rig? If you even *think* it is in the Head Gasket 'range', I would do them if you have to remove the intake again. Then hopefully never have to touch it again. In the meantime you should be able to unscrew the overflow/pressure tank cap, and drive it around and be fine (with no pressure on the system to 'push' coolant out). ...until you can get to it.

Mark, it's slightly over 132k, and i had no signs of blown head gasket at all. Temps stay steady, no over pressure in the expansion tank and no exhaust gases present in the coolant - did the test on it already...

The coolant dye helps to track down leaks. Makes it easier to see.

Walt, what puzzles me, I didn't even drive it yet, but I did check the spot today morning and again there was a coolant in it - not much, just the same amount like in my picture. So this has to keep dripping from the top. The only spot which is looking suspicious above it is that rear corner of the valley, behind the coil pack. I removed coil wires and managed to place my hand with the cleaning cloth on the back of the engine. I think i have now cleaned all the spots, so i should see "fresh" stain. I will get a dye as well...
But at least I'm starting to think that this isn't head gasket leak...I checked that plug above the head screw too and there is nothing happening there either...

That's right in the mileage range where HG's start to fail. 120-140. Back when this forum was really thriving, you'd see a lot of owners head gaskets failing in that 120+ mileage. Usually they didn't make it to 140 w/o leakiing.

If you have the time/funds, etc, better to do them once you're in there and have the engine apart. But I get the practical realities of life.

Based on how the rockers looked I would replace the head gaskets. That engine looked HORRIBLE so who know what other insults it has faced.

You will then have a 'clean slate' and won't need to guess.

The biggest expense is having the heads machined. The parts for the HG are less than $200 and you'll want to replace hoses as needed and fresh fluids.
