Default Cant shift transfercase into High unlocked

I just bought a 96 disco and the transfer case was in High Locked but I cant shift to High unlocked, it just looses all power to the wheels and sounds like something is just spinning in the transfer case. I can go to Low locked and low unlocked. Just wont go into high unlocked. When I drive in high locked it seems to drive like it is in unlocked, I can make very sharp turns and don't hear any tires slipping or chirping or any resistance in the steering wheel and the locked light is on. Does anyone know what this may be?

Thanks

Back and to the right is high unlocked

Forward some is neutral

All the way forward right is low unlocked

So is the shifter not going to the right in high? Or lite just staying on?

If it realty is in high lock the truck will jerk and make noises when turning on pavement

The shifter will not go into high unlocked as in it stays there but doesn't feel like its engaged and the locked light stays on and no power goes to the wheels. Which is far right and towards rear of vehicle. It will go into high locked which is far left and towards rear and it drives normal like it should be unlocked.

Something is broken. Axle, diff, cv-joint, something.

I know for the rear if I spin one wheel the other should spin the opposite, is that true for the front as well? I'm more familiar with Toyotas with locking hubs.

Thanks

Same front, both drive shafts in?

If its a linkage issue the linkage is all exposed on right side of trans / transfer case and very simple, sounds like something is disconnected

Yes, nothing disconnects in the front because you have full time 4wd. The front hubs are always "engaged" unless something is broken. As Tom mentioned, do you have both drive shafts in?

If you have someone to help you, you can put your foot on the brakes, unlock the transfer case, put it in drive, and have someone peek under, hopefully from a safe distance and see which drive shaft is just spinning. (assuming it's not something in the transfer case that is broken).

Ok I put It in gear and high unlocked and the front driveshaft was spinning. So im assuming it has a snapped front axle shaft, cv shaft or diff, can any one tell me an easier way to find out which side is snapped instead of pulling both axles?
