Changing transmission transfer case

Changing transmission transfer case
Alright, so a while back my moms Land Rover was driving and she went to Walmart to go to work, she turned at the last light and went to give it some gas and heard a ping. She coasted to a park, and from there the truck will not move. It cranks and starts, shifts through the gears.
So we have a motor, transmission and transfer case. Our plan was to do transmission and transfer case first. Other than transmission fluid, what else will I need? Any advice to give in this process? I've never done this before, but my boyfriend will be here to help out with the process. I've got a pretty good memory so I plan to just lift the rover and secure a jack under the transmission and transfer case and unbolt them, then slowly drop down.

there is a slight possibility that the shifter cable has come unhooked from the transmission ...had this happen to a buddy's Rover once...get under the truck and verify that the cable is moving the lever on the transmission, also I should ask.....did anyone check the transmission fluid ? .....also is there anyway that the transfer case lever is in neutral ??
