Default Click from the brake pedal?

Hi All:

So this morning I started hearing a noticeable click from near the brake pedal.

Click happens once when I slightly depress the pedal (can make the click happen before actually engaging any braking). Similar click when releasing the pedal.

Sounds kind of like the click of the turn signal in volume, sound. Or like an electric relay/switch??

And, for good measure, when in Park, I'm pretty sure I also hear a similar click right from the gear shift. No noise when in neutral or drive from the gear shift (as far as I can tell when driving).

Possible cause? 2 year old daughter was playing in front seat yesterday. Could have knocked the gear shift a bunch (would have been in park, with car off, obviously).

So, what's going on? I'm guessing there is a sensor between the gear shift and brake pedal -- but not sure where to start in troubleshooting or repair here.

Thanks.

It's just relays and solenoids actuating when you press and depress the pedal.

There are two switches on the brake pedal arm. One is the brake light switch and the other the cruise switch.
What you're describing though, sounds like the shiftlock solenoid sliding making the audible CLICK. That is totally normal.

I had this same issue as well and found myself having to pull the gear selector off to access the transmission solenoid to slide the gear shifter out of park one day. Save yourself the nuisance of the clicks and pick up a brake light switch at any auto parts store ($5-6) and replace it. No more clicks. Takes about 2 minutes to install.
