Default Craigslist find what sayeth the hive

I've been looking for a decent running D1 for the off-road events without breaking the bank. Without really even breaking the penny jar. I come across this one, which, is clearly overpriced. Doesn't take a rocket surgeon to know this.
Quick rundown: 1998 D1, 126k miles, beat to hello and back it appears. BUT it gets cool points with the rack and ladder, running boards and brush guard. Asking is $5,000. I'm thinking $500. Thoughts? Comments? Keep searching?

Like WTF crazy! Even $500 for a rack, ladder and a few dash bulbs is up there. They didn’t even blackout the hood to match the rest of the rattle can job.

Ha!, is there a nice way to offer $500 when the asking is $5k? Dont know that there is but what’s to lose right. I found another 1998 SD that i have inquired about. It’s bone stock and has NO, ZERO, NADA sunroofs. We’ll see if i get a response. I am surprised though at what people are asking for these even in pretty bad shape.

What are they asking for SD? How many miles? I’ve seen a few CL near me but the prices haven’t moved much. Knowing as much as I did about my former Disco I’d be hard pressed to jump on another unless it was extremely well cared for.

$1,900 for the SD. Seller says it has mechanical issues. Body is dent free and paint is well, peeling away. It looks to be a $300-500 truck. All original stock but high miles and likely some neglect. Again, would make a good trail truck witht the bugs fixed...i think

Hete’s the ad.

I imagine at some point these sellers would probably let them go for free just to have them gone.

the guy that has the $5000 truck is nuts to say the least - but if he cannot even clean the console rubber mat or come up with a better idea than the sheet rock screw in the seat adjustment panel than I doubt he could keep antifreeze in the radiator..

The SD has 2 potentials -- 1) could the owner mean windows not working as "needs mechanical work"? If so then you may have a chance at a nice truck. 2) at least this guy is on this planet as far as asking price goes.. try $1000 and see what the mechanical issues are..

The SD, my gut tells me, is a good fixer. The mileage is under 180k so probably could trail it easy like without too many issues.
