Default D1 Snorkle??

i am toying with the idea of an intake snorkle,
I like the ones that are on the outside of the fender, then go up alongside the windshield. I know the stock one goes inside the fender, then up the pillar but I like the other style. I believe there is different ones for ABS or non-ABS, and does it matter if it is a 3.9 vs a 4.0? just trying ti increase my knowledge before I fork out the bucks. i have seen prices vary from $100 to $700...

Not really for a "needed" basis, I just like the way it looks, much like the stock front brush guard or 'crash multiplier' as it is called. A raised intake is more for getting clean air into the engine as it takes the air from higher up instead of inside the engine bay where it is much hotter and more debris. If I was driving through water that deep, I am sure I would have other issues
