Well lookie there Brad... The best of the best just offered his services. Another reason why dealerships suck and these forums combined with independent LR specialists are the best way to go.

Can we start a '94 - '95 only forum? cause we're so special (in a short-bus kinda way)

I'm totally kidding of course....

I truly appretaite the offer Mike. As always you are a huge help on here.
I am going to check under my drivers seat and see if the wires are pulled or strained or broken. I have been researching on here and other forums and I come up with that as a issue time and time again. If that yields nothing I will take you up on that offer.

For now I am heading to Dallas for some more worthless training from Audi.

Could anyone expect a dealership to care about a 15 year old vehicle?

If your dealership did free diagnostics for owners, how much would you be making? Especially if the owner decided to do it himself or take it elsewhere.

For the record. All I was asking for was the code. NOT diagnose the vehicle. Just the Code. Does anyone on here have a airbag scan tool? NO? I rest my point. Proprietary tools should not be held hostage to a simple enthusiast.

I do not get paid to walk out to a vehicle, drive it into my bay, pull it back out, write a story on the RO or consult with either tech line for a difficult vehicle or the service writer. I only get paid to diagnose and fix the vehicle. A service writer can hook up a scan tool and read a stupid code in a couple of seconds. Ours at my dealership do it all the time.

When I work on the side I give the customer the first hour of diag for free. By doing so I am assured they will have me do the repairs. I have 75 clients and counting.

I do free work all the time. If it were not for my effeciency when diagnosing and repairing vehicles I would not make any money.

There are valid points on both sides. I scan for codes for free all the time, but I also do it expecting the repair work. I have to be in a really good mood or get bribed(usually by a donut) to scan a car for free when I know they will be going elsewhere for the work.

I would gladly offer up a case of brewski's or dozen donuts for a simple code.
Of course you have to get past the writers to the techs first.

"code" is not the end of the story. I don't get paid for the walking or the talking either, IF YOU WOULD HAVE READ THE ENTIRETY OF MY POST, you'd have seen that I wasn't trying to start controversy...

I take it all back...

Dealers are scum, how dare they not work for free, how dare they think that their time is worth something. How very dare they think that while everyone else is toiling for nothing, that they, the crumby, money hoarding, dealer think that they are the exception to the rule and are entitled to some type of monetary compensation for time and or diagnostic equipment that they have paid for.

Jeppers, creepers, I didn't realize what kind of dick I am...
