Discovery 1 US/UK differences
Hi Guys,
Being UK based, and having never graced the shores of the US; I was wondering what the major differences between UK and US model discoveries were, apart from engine size of course - there's no way we brits could afford to fuel something like a 4.0 V8 on a daily basis!!
And what's the parts availability like for you guys? They're ten a penny over here and parts can be had relatively cheap if you look in the right place.

Disco 1 1995 in good condition can set you back £1000 - £2000.
If you look later, example T Plate (1999) Disco, TD5, no extras - £4495
I got mine for £1500, needed alarm ecu correcting (done for £60) and door lock drivers side (£89 and £8 actuator)
you can pick them up cheap if you want to do work (lots) or you can pay through the nose and still have to do some work. Usually body work, wheelarches etc.
Parts however, providing you don't go for original LR aren't too bad. Obviously some parts are LR only and costly at that.
But the amount of Discos sitting in bone yards for parts is massive, so depending on the breaker you can often remove the part (and one or two extra) yourself
And the british chevy range is utter sh1te....

If you're comparing V8 disco's not a lot of difference, though there are some nice things available there that weren't here, like manual windows and sunroofs, no airbags so a grab handle on the passenger side, stuff like that.
Biggest for me is the 200 & 300tdi, wish they'd been available here.

I was however rather surprised to see the cost of a '99 Disco over there, roughly $7,241 USD. They can be found here all day long under $6k usd(roughly 3750 gbp)

The vehicles themselves seem to come up cheap enough on your side, but I can't imagine life without my TD!!! Its thirsty (25 MPG UK gallon of 4.55L) but thats probably double what you get out of the V8's.
And with fuel prices like they are (a gallon is £6 - about $10) people seem to run the 300TDIs quite smoothly on Kerosene or filtered cooking oils...
My crazy chinese buddy had this habit...
He also has an extra 300tdi engine with an absolute ton of spares, a defender 90 300tdi and no drivers licence......

I've looked into HO2 fuel cells, and various other items, but at the moment i've had some small improvements in MPG courtesy of a couple of magnets on the fuel lines, i'm also looking into the effects of the air intake creating a vortex as air is dragged into the block - according to "Hiclones" this improves efficiency no end, apparently this together with the magnets better disperses fuel and air molecules allowing them to burn more efficiently, thus requiring less to power your motor...... Results to be announced.

WTF!?!?!?!? 3$ thats about £2!! How many litres to a US gallon?
I'd s*** golden eggs to get fuel at that price! Even Kero is £3.50 per gallon.
Its all down to the british government hitting the motorists, £1.02 out of every £1.31 (price per litre/liter) is tax alone...... How's that for a scam!
