Question E brake operates in reverse function...

I removed my rear drive shaft to replace the Ujoint, bushing and rotoflex. I needed more room in the front of my driveway so I released the brake put it in reverse to back up a few feet. I could feel the truck struggling like the ebrake was still on so I rengaged the brake and voila I'm moving in reverse. I release the brake and the truck slows to a stop. All I did was remove the rear shaft, I didn't open the drum at all. Am I missing something here?

So you're saying that the emergency brake works BACKWARDS from what it's supposed to ? Pull the brake lever and it releases ?

That's strange for sure... And almost nearly impossible..

Sounds like you're going to have to disassemble that sucker and see what's going on...

Coincidental failures are the Rover's trademark..

It is bizarre, I have the rear shaft off already so ill dig a little deeper. Maybe a spring is out of wack in there?

you probaby just flipped the linkage at the console
if you pull the lever too high, the linkage joint will toggle over opposite
just pull the lever boot off and see if it happened

Sweet I think that may be the issue, I never rip up on a hand brake. I just inspected the drum, everything looks really clean. Anything I should specifically be looking for in there? Not much room.
Looks like a may have to go from below, under the boot is just a rod going through to the floor and the brake indicator plug.

Ok I'm at a loss, everything looks normal from the bottom.

You had the rear shaft off, which on the E brake end holds the drum against the drive flange. The drum probably became slightly cocked and bound up on the shoes.

You have a open center diff. You can't drive without a rear drive shaft so when you put on the e brake it puts the power to your front shaft. The power goes to path of least res. blamo

Thanks to everyone. Blamo, you were correct. I started to freak thinking I screwed something up, this was my first time doing u joints and my first 4x4. A moment of stupidity. Everything is good to go now. Also, advanced auto says that pdq1-005 doesn't exist so I had to order from online. Perhaps they're phasing out that product line?
