Default Electrical "click" when getting out of 5th gear.

Hey anyone know what might make an electrical "click" or snap sound when I take the disco out of 5th gear?

Nothing electrical is associated with any gears in the gearbox aside from the reverse switch.

Yeah I didn't think there was, i was trying to describe the sound. It sounds like when you throw one of those poppers you throw on the ground around the 4th of july. It is only when I put it in 5th gear and take it out. It happens even when the truck is not on. I will try and get a video and upload it somewhere.

I'd look for something rubbing are caught in the shifter, for a start anyway.

Default Detents

Could be the detents making noise when you shift in and out of 5th gear. There are two metal forks that act like springs to bring the shifter to it's correct position in nuetral that can make some noise even when the car is not running. Mine makes a similar noise when I shift into 4th. Hope this helps.

So is there a way to fix this, or no? As long as nothing is going to implode on me it does not really bother me.

The springs can wear gouges in the shifter, like mine pictured below.

I get the click/spark/noise too.

I took apart the shifter and wrapped some thin sheet metal around it all but I still get the click. Not sure what it is.

If that's what the springs end up doing I wonder how much metal is left on my shifter after all these years. I just took everything apart last week except for that. I don't want to dive in again lol.
