Default Engine fan self destructed

Just a heads up because I don't think this is that common...

I replaced my fan clutch with a Chevy Express van one on Thursday. Friday I do some off roading. Lately, its been raining a lot in Socal. There were some large but not deep puddles so I decided it would be fun to charge threw them.

After I ran threw the puddle my check engine light comes on. This made me slightly nervous so I decided to pull over and pop the hood. I look around the engine compartment to find fan blades scattered everywhere.

First instinct is to check the fan shroud and motor mounts to see if anything is out of place. Everything looks good.

My theory is that the water the rushed into the engine compartment tried to slow the fan. Since the fan clutch is new and tight it kept spinning the fan at speed. Since the fan is plastic and brittle it broke apart and sprayed fan blades everywhere.

I have to run my Disco for codes on Tuesday when I go back to work to see what was damages from the fan explosion.

Fun times in my Disco.

BTW, Happy New Years.

Sweet. Do you have pics of the carnage?
Your codes are most likely from getting your plug wires wet.
Reset them and I bet they wont come back.
As for a new fan...Chevy Express w/V6.

I've seen reports of this before with the plastic fans, at least one taking out the person's radiator.
When I first installed the domestic clutch about 5 years ago I also installed a metal fan blade so I never needed to worry about it.

I'll take some pics when I take it all apart.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll see I can get a metal fan as well.
