I can't remember is a D1 is 2.25 or 2.5"s in and out. The length should be too much of an issue especially if you aren't running a resinator. I would think the longer the muffler, up to a point, the muffler is, the less back pressure and more mellow sound.

 

When I measured my muffler (OEM) it measured bigger than that, 22" long, 12" wide and 7" high, but I admit those are rough measurements.
I did not have the truck jacked up and I was laying on my side trying to keep the dog out of my face.

 

Everything I have found Mike is 2.5" in/out and I have actually found alot of choices at AutoZone, including Magnaflow, Cherrybomb, Thrush and a large array of other OEM and hi-flow mufflers.

I am going to take it to a muffler shop and see what options they have but I think you talked me into a better flowing exhaust Mike, damn you. lol

I really like a quiet truck but if all the noise is behind me will I really hear it?
Right now the hole in the muffler is right under the floor behind my seat and I hate it.
And if I can get a little better MPG and maybe even alittle horse power gain that would be nice.

 

Possible... when I installed mine it fitted right in. The muffler is 18" long and has 3" if pipe on each side.

This is the closest match to the factory muffler I found on the Magnaflow website.

 

I measured just the body, but the 3" of pipe on each side is the bugger.
I am just thinking of what pipe to use after the muffler if I do this myself, my exhaust is rusted into one solid piece and will need to be cut up to be removed.
If I can separate the muffler from the y-pipe I can replace the muffler myself but then what do I do to get the exhaust out the back?
Flex pipe? Which is not very good.
And if I go with flex pipe why not forget the muffler altogether? Straight pipe baby!!

LOL, ya know, I have always wondered how loud it would be running straight pipe from the Y all the way back and put a supertrap or resonator at the exit.

 

once the muffler out I started the truck..... way too loud for me!

A sawzall for the muffler does wonders, and blowtorches to separate the muffler from the y-pipe.

I went to a muffler shop before I bought my muffler and they quoted me 200$ to replace the muffler parts and labor.

The only downside of the Magnaflow I bought is that you need to get it welded in place.

 

Well I went and talked to a guy I know who builds race cars and hot rods, if I buy the muffler and 10ft of pipe he can custom build me a exhaust.
Pipe is $2/ft, he has a pipe bender.
Flowtec has some pretty sweet mufflers for not much money.
Now to decide if I want a dual exhaust or not, that would be another 10ft of pipe.
