Default fan clutch

Hey all !! when i purchased this vehicle the fan clutch had just been replaced..It seems to be on all the time, The ol disco sounds like a humvee, when it gets hot. Is this normal, on an extremly hot day at idle Say at a light, my coolant is 210, While driving in the mornings, when its under 80 outside its measuring about 180 or so. Fan clutch still engaged..any thoughts would be appreciated.

Yup, severe duty fan clutch, you need to swap it out for a standard duty one if you want to increase mpg and reduce engine noise.

You may also want to verify your t/stat is OK, your radiator is not restricted and your electric cooling fans are working.

There are 2 of them on the front of the radiator assembly. Generally I only hear them when my engine is running really hard or my A/C is on.

The electric fans have nothing to do with engine cooling, they are for the a/c only.
If your fan clutch is running all the time and you are not overheating then the clutch is either a severe duty one or it is bad.
If it was just replaced then they put on a severe duty one.

I don't really know. I had a severe duty fan clutch and a 250 mile trip used s full take of fuel when it should have taken no more than 3/4 of a tank.

Ignore that.
Some people think you need the AC fans to keep your engine cool.

Like Spike said, and I've said countless times, the AC fans (electric fans Mike wants you to check) are only needed when running the AC.

The do cut in when you overheat without the AC, but that's like turning on your heater to blow off heat. It's merely an assist until you figure out what the real problem is.
If you're worried about overheating when your AC is not running, focus on the AC fans at your peril.

But to your original question, the severe duty fan runs more than the standard duty one. Even when the engine isn't hot. So as Spike said, it sounds like you have a severe duty if it's been replaced.
