I was going to suggest using 87A but I'm too late. As for the fans, I wish you luck. I tried to get some working on an old RRC and was never happy with the results. I prefer a steady temp for my rovers. Having it cycle between 190-210 just drove me nuts because I always feared it would just keep climbing. I ended up just hooking up a manual override and running it none stop while driving. Which kind of defeats the purpose.

I wired in a Spal fan last summer but at the time I wasn't sure how I would do the temp switch to control it. Note that it's on or off, it's not variable speed. Digging around a box of spare race car bits I found I had a spare relay wiring kit as well as a 195F temp switch. So I have this all wired in and then to a switch so I can manually run the fan if I choose. I have the temp switch mounted in the radiator (top, hot) but something is not correct because the fan does not turn on as I expect. Monitoring the Ultragauge says coolant temp gets up to 210F and no fan. I realize the UG is pulling temp elsewhere (tstat housing correct?) but I wouldn't expect that much temp difference. The fan will switch on manually just fine. I need to make sure the temp switch is grounded properly but I believe it is.

The fan seems to work well at least, just need to get the temp switch part sorted. I don't recall how much the temp switch costs but the relay/wiring kit was only like $40 and it's very simple.

Look at my build thread towards the end? There is a pic of a brass adapter from home depot? That adapts the unused coolant hole in the front of the intake , adapts the hole from strange Brit crap to 3/8 x18 not

https://landroverforums.com/forum/bu...-57534/page30/

This puts it just below the engine temp sending unit

Same as Chevy 87 /95 with fuel injection

I have done these in the past and gone with read temp, bad idea imo, need to pull from engine

And be sure the stat is low enough to stay open after fan shutoff

That's cool but not sure this would work for me. IIRC, the temp switch I'm using is quite large, 3/4" maybe, I'll have to confirm. Sure would be nice to go directly to the tstat housing though. Thanks for the tip. And nice on all the work you've done, I'm envious.

Cheers.

I am not in the housing, there is a brass plug to right of stat sticking straight out of the front of the intake, check pics in that link

Mine has the same blank off plug too on the intake manifold. Just under and to the right of the tstat. What was it for?

It was used for something when the block was a 3.5 IIRC. Mine started leaking a bit recently, I have to take the whole assembly I created out and re-seal it all with loctite in the spring.

I'll check it but I'm guessing my temp switch is too large. Thanks.
