are you using a sealing paint?

my carpets and padding were unsaveable and my truck was entering a new form as a third world urban crawler. my new floor suit me well. ill keep the rugs and forgo the lift in the d2 tho.

 

Yeah, Ill get some regular rustoleum on there when Im all done.

 

I just wanted to say I am brand new to the forum and your posts have been most helpful. I have the same issues not as bad but still pretty rough. I see now I do not need to remove the entire floor. I have a couple questions.

1) Did you have rust bad in the rear wheel arch?
2) What was the insulation you used? (my old insulation smelled like cat pee so I am not leaving that in there.
3) Can you explain the purpose of the cardboard again under the fiberglass?

Bad? No. The pics show the holes I believe. A few silver dollar size holes. Check your firewall too.

I removed all carpeting and insulation as mine also smelled like cat pee. I put a layer of metal (diamond plate and sheet) over most of the floor. In between was a layer of foil and fiberglass insulation..pretty standard stuff and widely available. Got mine on ebay. You can do better but it's inexpensive and works good for heat and sound.

3) Can you explain the purpose of the cardboard again under the fiberglass?

The fiberglass on application is wet and gooey. If you don't support it with something underneath it will sag and drip. The cardboard let's it set. You may have to apply more of the epoxy part to the bottom to seal it in. You don't want stuff getting up in between the original floor and the new floor.

I did see those entire replacememnt floor pans on EBAY UK, if you had advanced rust that would be a great option but a lot of work.

Slang was fortunate and had the panels and made excellent use of what he had. He has motivated me to take a fresh look at redoing more stuff on mine soon.

The last couple of weeks I have been outback redoing my redneck love shack trying to get it ready for a Fourth of July Party and Sendoff for the DIL and grandkids returning to NC. The heat wave has been brutal but I put a reflective aluminum foil trucker's cooler tarp over the southern exposure and it made a huge difference.
