I have a 96 an the front seal is cutting loose on me..
I have read some other posts about white shepherd
(Due to some time constraints I am unable to just fix it properly..)
I lose less than a quart a week.. but it is blowing back all over everything an stinks of burning oil... Now on to the question... On the white shepherd... Should I use the regular or the rear seal version?

 

Use the seal version.
Then take some RTV and using your finger coat the outside of the seal and let it dry, add the White Shepard and drive for 2 hours continuous.
That will get you buy until you can fix it properly.
The seal is only like $3, a shop can replace it for you in half a day.
Drop it off in the morning, bum a ride to work, pick it up on the way home.
Any shop can do this job, bring them the seal, have them do the labor.
Should be no more than $100, its a pretty simple job with the right tools.

Start to finish it only took a couple of hours to change out in the driveway although I have the tools and I'm slow.

 

Slow is a understatement.

 

.....and I STILL don't know how much my nuts are worth.

 

I have the seal and the gaskets in hand already. I ordered them last week..
I'm just afraid of what I'll get into once I open it up...
And figured I better do the timing chain and the oil pump is also accessible at that point correct?
I know if it ain't broke don't fix it...

And as far as the seal sealant... And rtv on the front seal slowed the leak way down..
Oh and it is called blue devil not white shepherd same company though

 

Oh ihscouts... I dunno about yers.. but my nuts are priceless!

 

No need to remove the engine cover, just the crank shaft pulley.
Remove the old seal, install new one, put pulley back.

 

Serious? I guess I misinterpreted the rave.. go figure...
While I was under there today smearing rtv all over it.. I was looking thinking man...
Why does the cover have to come off...
Boy is my face red... I coulda just fixed it this afternoon... Oh well always next weekend..
