Default Gas door lock plastic catch removal

Anyone know how to remove the plastic catch lever from the gas door lock cylinder? I'd like to replace the one that someone cut the dog leg off on my 98's lock, but I didn't see a good way to release it or pry it off without breaking it. Got a good one from a 95, but no key for it. (Duh! why didn't I think of that before the key went to the crusher with it?)

You can remove the tumblers from the lock housing and then it's just a blade style that will accept a key, a screw driver, the air pressure indicator off a tire gauge.....

hmm.. I need to find a new latch my old one got frozen shut while i was on EMPTY and I had to force it open..

I did reverse the spring, now it helps keep it shut instead of letting it flap open

I've had to muscle ***** it open a few times cuz key wouldn't come out of ingnition... I'll have to eventually do a ignition tumbler rebuild. Ugh

LOL!!!! I'll tell ya what I did to fix my ignition switch, gutted it too. I can start and fuel with anything I've got handy........ Truck has no safety switches on anything nor ignition key lock. Easy breezy livin. I still use same door key so the truck can be locked/unlocked and alarm armed but I rarely need it.

If I need another radiator I've bookmarked your thread on going GM, Tom's all over it too (so no worries about it being refreshed daily for awhile) LOL.

The lock on the gas cap drives me crazy!! I keep thinking about gutting the tumblers and putting a **** on the outside so you don't need the key. Sometimes it turns really hard and I keep imagining breaking off the ignition key in the gas cap lock. I like the idea of gutting the tumblers and making a blade with a **** on the end and leave that in the door lock permanently.

Default got the lock catch off

I finally discovered there is a small U shaped clip of round wire that holds the plastic catch on the gas filler door lock and was able to push it part way out using a tiny hex key in the tiny holes on the catch to push on the ends of the clip to get it far enough out to pry it the rest of the way with a small screwdriver. I put on the good catch I got from a 95 and re-bent the spring which had been slid down and positioned to hold the door closed and now it again holds it open when it is unlocked.

I just need the OEM cap and tether I bought with some other parts to arrive and the filler will be back to OEM. Now if it would only take gas at a reasonable rate.
