Default Have to Pump the GAS pedal to start on occasion

Hello all I have a 98 Diso 1 with only 78k original miles. Everything seemed fine until recently. Most of the time it starts up right away but sometimes I try to start the car and acts like it want to turn over but doesnt then I pump on the gas and it starts. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN A WEEKS PERIOD. Anybody have any ideas why this is doing this?

Default any other symptoms?

Does it act odd during any other time? Does it idle well when the engine is cold and hot? Does it do this when the outside temps are hot or has it only started as the weather cooled down? Does it stumble / lose power during coasting or braking?

Sounds like Fuel Temp Sensor to me "FTS" same symptoms I had till I replaced mine, when it finally starts after extended cranking it will black smoke a little with raw fuel.

Check your fuel pressure at the rail after it has set over night and before starting. If it is low or 0 then your fuel pump valve has failed and the pump will need to be replaced.

Check fuel pressure at the rail? What is the rail, instrument panel?

Look close at the pic, you will see a fuel line that runs along the middle of the intake plenum, and you will see a tire valve on it, that is the fuel rail, that tire valve is where you check the fuel pressure.
