help with replacing exhaust manifold
i admit i've never done my own work on any of my cars, so before i replace my exhaust manifold myself (it seems as though there are only 6 bolts to take it off), i thought i would ask for recommendations on how to do it and where to go to get the part. any help would be appreciated.
Exhaust manifolds are easy,straight-forward. You're biggest obstacle is not breaking the bolts/studs. If you can, I would start soaking all the bolts/studs a day ahead(without driving it), at least 3 or 4 times with PB Blaster, or you're fav penetrating oil.
Thinking in hindsight, if you're replacing the manifold, I would just get new studs where it bolts to the y-pipe and not worry about breaking them when removing.
As far as the parts themselves, if you get a latter model(updated 97-99 D1), I would go used on the manifold itself (aprox. $300 new). The gaskets can be had at many of the rover supply people on the net

I bought a used exhaust manifold with new studs already installed from Will Tillery. See Disco Mike's signature for Wills link. You will need new gaskets on each end ( at the engine and the y-pipe flange.
There is also a torquing pattern to follow on the bolts to the block.
