Red face Was I ripped off

Hello folks returning to LR after many years and just bought a 1994 Disco for £1200, but have been feeling diddled!
It was bought with the suggestion that the MOT would be no prob, but it needs a ton of welding amongst other smaller things.
But my question is how bad is £1200 for
1994 Disco,
Outer bodywork ok
Engine gearbox ok
Full roof rack
full set of brand new AT tyres
Bull Bars and full light set (working)
Steering Gaurd and diff gaurds
2" lift
Oh and a high lift jack thrown in

I was def conned but am hoping it was worth it?
if nothing else I have a project as this truck is NOT off to the scrap heap

Those parts are worth the price you paid alone.
So you got what you paid for, alot of good accessories with a truck that wont pass inspection for free.

£1200 does seem a little steep, but you did get some really nice goodies out of it. The absolute worst case would be to sell off the parts, scrap the rest, and get yourself a few extra quid out of it.

Is it petrol or diesel?

Its a Diesel, Really nice outside and interior is pretty good as well, it runs well and all the gears select nicely. Will get the welding etc done.
Just pains me that I may have had the wool pulled over my eyes, but ultimately I like the car I have, just needs some time and money

Yeah, if you can weld her up tight again and at least get her rolling, you've got another year to get some Waxoyl on her, and see if that stops her rust getting worse.

A very good friend of mine in Leeds just had to do some welding on his Camper van, and also on his Range Rover. I never realized how bad the corrosion gets in the United Kingdom until Frank showed me. I guess it makes sense...it's constantly very damp over there, and Frank said they use copious amounts of salt in the winter...a bad combo!

Good luck with the welding, and keep us updated!

Definitely, salt water is murder on anything metal. I once got a 4x4 stuck in a salt water marsh, and the salt in the mud ate the frame from inside out, and it didn't take very long at all.

What can we do to protect our frames from this gunk (salt, water, crap) that affects us in the northern climates every winter? Should we use a product Rustoleum makes to protect it? I have used W-D40 and that helps. But you have to spay it on all the time......

Do this every spring to get all of the road salt off of your undercarriage.
