I Wanna Buy... But got a VIN red flag
Sorry, i have to type this on my phone...
I'm looking at a 99 Discovery, he says he is an enthusiast. I only got a short test-drive over a decent grade, all works well from a 5-minute drive of my choice. We didn't have time for more, so no blame.
I looked up the VIN & everything is clear except two hits from two separat sources:
TITLE BRAND INFO:
"REBUILT" 2005
I have two reports from two separate reports from:
Checkthatvin
&
Carsforsale
Identical info about ZERO RED FLAGS other than a HUGE one:
NMVTIS says despite no junk / salvage records, the VIN's "TITLE BRAND INFO' is flagged as REBUILT
REBUILT coincides closely with a new title / ownership date c.2005. No crash or insurance info throughout it's history, just the "salvage" claim possibly relevant to that title change.
None of the other info on the reports supports salvage / rebuilt claims, yet that means little in the quagmire.
FYI: it seems the vehicle was first registered in MD before making it's way west. Shipping from mftr in UK.
Seller went down from 2600 to 1900 without my asking. Says he "needs the space".
I love Toyotas, but I don't want this to be my first "piece of ****" with a capital T. All my Toyotas have been great, & each were stolen.
pls give me a clue what the (false?) Red Flag from NMVTIS means. "REBUILT" branding means what??¹
Thanks! I can provide more info but cannot copy / paste or attach the full reports.
