Default Land Rover Radio code

Picked up a '98 Disco1 and it has had alarm issues. I have it running and it needs a bit of attention. The radio comes up with a simple message on the screen "CODE" and then shuts off after a bit. No sound or anything. Anyone have a clue of a generic code that might work?
I know I could pull the radio and use an aftermarket one but I thought I'd give this a try first.

There is no generic code. look through the owners manual for the code it is on a laminated business card. If no luck pull the radio, the PO may have written it on the case. After that its a call to the dealer or replace.

I'll give that a try. My other D1 did not have a radio, just a hole in the dash where it was supposed to be. Got a $50 Walmart unit that has worked well for the last 7 years now.

Look under the rubber coin tray on the dash. That is where I keep the code for my radio.

PO wrote code in owner's manual under radio section. I also found it on bottom of coin tray on dash. Written in black ink so I had to hold it just right to see it.

No owners manual. Code was on steady and I punched in the serial number. Now it is flashing when I turn it on. Did I start up the timer??

On the plus side, the CD changer under the pass seat ejects the cassette for the CD's and makes noise when I put it back in place. sounds like it might work.

its got to be on for over an hour before itll clear out and accept a code again

the serial # is not the code. Im surprised yours doesnt have 7,8,9, or 0 in it. You need to have the dealer look up the code using the serial #

Left ignition on Acc for over 1 1/2 hours with a charger on the battery, still a flashing code on radio, turning key off and on didn't change anything. Still no code as the dealer has not called back with a code. Maybe time to visit Wallyworld and buy an aftermarket radio. unless anyone has an idea ... Thanks for all the help! You guys have bailed me out many times!!

IIRC it has to be in pos II.... in other words, running. pos I won't help. It took mine about 30 mins to re-engage. Keep the radio power off though this interval.
