Default Mystery seal in my swivel ball kit

Refurbing swivel *****, and I got the kit from AB. Included is a seal that I can't identify, man I have no idea what it is for. Here are some pics:

it is marked "IN53275", "51" and "CFW" on the outside. What is strange about it is that it has a metal insert type thing in the back, like a slightly smaller seal was pushed into the back of it:

It is too small in diameter OD-wise to fit anywhere from the drive member all the way along the axles to the casting, including inside the stub axle, but the ID is right for passing the axle.

Any ideas? Is it extra? Extra parts always stink of incompetence, aside from making me nervous.

TIA -

Call AB and ask them, since you bought it from them. Is it listed anywhere in their literature?

does the metal part come out? it kind of looks like the stub axle needle roller bearing that they shoved in a seal to protect it during shipping

Naw, it was just in a bag in the box with the rest of the stuff. No markings. And the kit doesn't have a manifest listed on the website, either. I don't want to wait until monday either *sigh*. And I don't think it is a mistake, as I bought two kits and there is one in each kit. Nothing like it, however, has emerged from the teardown of my front end.

No, originally I thought it went in the stub axle but it is too small, I found that one by looking up the part number to be sure. It is about !/4" smaller in diameter than the needle bearing. And the metal piece definitely doesn't come out, it is made that way.

Nope, that is the double lipped seal for the rear hub, did those last weekend.

Yes you did.

lol got that, why do you think it is taking me so long to get this done. I'm working over a case of Imperial Russian Stout (Stone Brewery) and those sneaky red bastards are winning. I'll get them tomorrow for sure...
