Exclamation Need vin help...

so i may have screwed up here...
i just bought a 96 disco yesterday, checked the vin and plates and everything to the title, but my dumb *** only checked the door, today i look at the dash tag and its different. now the dash looks like they may have replaced it where as the doors do not, but i need to know for sure if i got screwed or not, where else is the vin on this vehicle for me to match which one i actually have???

door says what i have, dash says different. i suspect that the dash was replaced and they forgot to change the tag (i almost did that changing the dash in my bmw), and i did just verify with the police that the vin thats on the dash was a car sold to a junk yard and not stolen so yea i think im good, i still want to verify it though, theres no where its stamped on the chasis or anything?

I've heard people in other vehicle communities talk about getting the original build information from the factory, based on their VIN. If you could get that from LR, then maybe you could compare serial numbers on major components, ie; engine and tranny to see if they were what was originally installed on that particular vehicle. Of course this would only help you if none of those components had been swapped in the vehicle's lifetime, and provided that you could actually get all that information.

i could do that, i've got a buddy that works at the land rover dealership it was originally sold at. he did just give me the code for the radio and that was right for the vin i'm supposed to have so yea, small sign but a sign none the less that its right. that and i can't see any tooling marks on the door bolts so i'm doubtful they were ever removed.

well i talked to land rover, vin is etched on the frame to the right of the passanger side spring, sure enough it matches my door, meaning i've got the right car.
