Default NGK / NTK 25044 OXYGEN SENSOR doesn’t fit my 96

Hello Good People,
Finally bit the bullet and needed to switch out my O2 sensors.
Got in there and it’s a no go with the new NGK / NKT 25044 sensors.
In the image below you can see the new 25044 sensor on the left has some kind of tab inside that is in the way. The sensor on the right is the one removed.

Any way to get this to work?
What sensor should I be looking for at this point?

Thanks

It looks like NGK 25017 is what I am looking for.

Question: Would it matter if I spliced the head of the old sensor onto the new one ( NGK 25044)? If so I will put these in the downstream position. I bought them months ago and can no longer return them.

The upstream will have new NGK 25017 sensors since it’s a pain in the butt to swap out so best to do it right the first time without any splicing

Thanks

The type of O2 Sensor depends if you have a AEL or Non-AEL (Advanced Evaporative Loss) System.

Some useful INFO>>>

The NTK 25044 is for a truck WITH AEL...

looks like you need the NTK 25017 (for a non-AEL truck.)

No chance of splicing the heads to put in the rear?

Or do I simply need to get 4 of the 25017 sensors?

Thanks

I am not 100% sure the sensors are the same, so IMHO I would just get the correct NTK 25017.

I looked on the NTK site and while they give a detailed listing of all products offered ( NGK & NTK ) there was nothing re: specs.

Have a look in " PART FINDER " > https://ngksparkplugs.com/en/

Here are the listing and descriptions for both the 25017 and 25044 (the site has very detailed pics)>

Hello President OverRover,
I appreciate the response along with the links.
At this point I may as well get 4 of the correct sensors and be done with all things exhaust related.

Thanks

p.s.
Anyone want a good deal on two brand new 25044 sensors?
