What do you mean when you say it is choking out?

Have you read the fuel pressure at the fuel rail with the new pump?

X2, check fuel pressure. Which model number did you put in? where did you get it from?

I got it at a local auto parts store. It is P74006. I used this website. It said that RR pump and Disco would be interchangeable. I got home from dinner and by dinner I mean vodka tonics and it started up no problem. Then Im driving home from school today and it starts hesitating and surging again. I got it home and now again seems ok. What' s going on? I'm going to pick up my gf and can only assume it will brea'k in the next hour (hope not.) I don't have a way to check pressure.

Like it was pushing something through the line maybe. I really dont have any idea what is really going on. Any input would be great. Sorry for delay disco mike just got back from Chem.

I don't have a ton of cash being a student so I went with the conversion using the internal pump. Is the pump the issue? I put BG 44k in tank twice a year run plus gas. My filter has not been changed recently because I can't get the bolts off. Would a dirty filter cause this mess?

I did the same thing when my fuel pump went... bought the replacement internal pump, opened up the the fuel pump assembly, wired the new pump in etc. Drove for a day with no issues, was feeling extremely proud for saving some cash, then it started surging, jolting and dying out. I went crazy for 2 months trying to figure it out. Out of desperation I bought a working used fuel pump assembly with original pump from a 96 on ebay. Threw it in expecting no change, but to my surprise the truck ran fine again. My guess is that the replacement pump was just too strong, though other people say they have done it with no problems, in my case it didn't work. I would imagine a really clogged fuel filter would also cause similar issues.

I eventually bought a brand new fuel pump assembly from AB. After I installed it, the rpms were really high, after the dealer reset the adaptive values, the idle was perfect again. ECU probably didn't know what to do with a pump that worked as it was supposed to. Anyway, hope this helps, good luck.

Don't know anything about the P74006, but I put in a master E3270 with no problems. Mine has a min flowrate of 50gph and 80 psi the carter is 16 gph and 50 psi. Not sure if that 50 is a minimum or what it is with no flow. Still, the Rover takes a minimum of 36psi cranking, also not sure if there is a difference between flowrates for the Pre and Post AEL.

I am post AEL and used the master (airtex) E3270 with no problems at all.

When you installed it, did you replace the line between the assembly and the pump? If you got it too long, it could be crimped when you press the assembly in for install...
