Default Parking Lights Mod?

Hello Good People,

I've searched the forum high and low and was wondering if anyone had done a parking lot mod. I am interested in manually turning my side markers and all amber lights on during that time of day before headlights are needed.

Curious if it has been done, and what is needed to make it happen. If I dont like it I will return it to stock. I miss this feature that was on my late 80's vehicles.

Doesn’t the first position of the headlight switch do this?

ahhhh, that’s what I thought. Commonly referred to as parking lights.

Mine did not work, I had to add a flux capacitor to the switch to activate them.

The first position of the headlight switch only dimly turns on the headlights. This doesn’t turn on any Amber lights.

What around the garage flux capacitor parts do you recall using to meet such an objective?

Been awhile since I played with a D1 but I believe that means you have a bad headlight switch

Thanks ArmyRover,
I best look into getting that fixed which would mean no mod needed.
The Ambers do come on properly when applying the turn signal but that’s about it.

Thanks!

I returned outside and found my "parking lights/city lights" to be working. The parking lights are the small lights inside the headlight housing that come on when the headlight switch is in position #1.

I found a thread on DiscoWeb saying the D1 doesn’t have parking lights and that the Ambers only come on as turn signals. If this is the cause than my headlight switch is functioning properly.

Still...it would be interesting to get those Ambers on like mentioned in the first post.

The D1 has no side or front amber "parking lights". Your switch is fine. You can mod them easy enough because I believe the Defender had the turn signal/parking light setup.

And the corresponding plug/pigtail. Bulb Holder XBP100190 Harness Repair Kit (8959ABP Same Fit As Part # 8959ABP ) - Land Rover bulbs from Atlantic British

You can probably source them from a junkyard and just wire them up!

Thanks fishEH!
Much appreciation for the links.
This gives me yet another chance to move beyond my previous gay mods!
