Default Is this possible????? (R380)

Here is an R380 5spd out of my 94 D1. This was the original 5spd and it was sent out to get rebuilt somewhere in Ohio this was done by the PO. 5th gear exploded and ruined it's opposite gear on the counter shaft. Hopefully you can see the photos ok. My goal here is to salvage the tranny because everything else inside is still in 100% condition. Has anyone sent out gears to be cleaned up and or remove rust before? Is this even possible to accomplish. Any suggestions are great and yes I know I'am missing the tail housing.

Ha! That's what I was thinking myself, everything turns fine I just need to find the replacement gear on the counter shaft. The bearings seem pretty standard do you think I would be able to match them up at a local auto parts store Spike? I really do like the idea of having an extra rebuilt R380 provided I can acquire what I need. I know I can get the 5th gear ship over.

If the gears were ruined during operation, the debris has spread throughout the works and possibly damaged other components. At the least you would need to flush the trans out. At the worst you'll need to disassemble and clean all of the works.

I just took about 300lb of gearbox internals to the scrap metal center because of bad rust.

Do these internals resemble any of the 300lbs you tossed? And do you think I would be ok just dismantling and cleaning plus replacing the other two gears and calling it a day? This is just an extra part to sit on my non existent parts shelf.

Would love to disassemble and clean everything just need to acquire the parts. Right now it makes a good conversation starter when the wife has people over. Do you happen to live in the Monroe NY where the Woodbury Commons are?

Of all your photos some look worse, some look better. It's really hard to tell from a photo. Very light surface rust is probably ok, but if there's any pitting whatsoever the gearbox will be noisy, at best. At worst....

Yes, I do. When I first moved here, it was small and there was only one traffic light between me a nd the Thruway. Now the place is huge and planning to expand again, There are now 5 traffic lights between me and the Thruway, and the timing is so bad they add an additional 10-15 minutes to the ride.
